Specifics Kargi cloth – Warping is a most delicate process of Kargi cloth weaving. Requires math has and attention, does not accept any faults. Smallest calculation error results in pattern distortions and there is no turning back at that point. Another sensitive process is ‘peskir’ weaving. Although not a high-speed process, definitely requires attention and care, a demanding task taking a long time.
Currently there are only 20 practitioners of this business… But I guess there are more people who know about it. It does not have a difficult learning process; I think it is important that the person have the will to learn.
Ability matters when art is in question, however there is no doubt that will counts more. I believe that devotion and studiousness can accomplish any work.
The most enjoyable part of weaving is definitely to see people appreciate the products.
Specifics Kargi cloth – The part that requires genuine mastery is the warping. The most tiresome stage is the sales straits. We work hard, we get tired and manufacture very good products but we do not have continual customers yet. The project, which had been carried on by the collaboration of Anadolu Sigorta and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is accomplished. Presently, we are working on a project by Kargi Akasya Environment and Education Association, which I also am a director. Yet, when this project too is completed, we need markets in order to remunerate these women’s efforts.
Context of the trainings
It is rather an applied training. For example when weaving, warping, winding thread we enable trainees to practice these processes. As the occasion arises, we also teach them the names, intended uses and functions of all the materials we use. Within the context of the project, Anadolu Sigorta provided each trainee a loom. This is crucial regarding the learning process.
Each trainee was able to do the same practice at the same time. The participation had been satisfying. No troubles were encountered. In the beginning, the lessons were challenging for the trainees but once they have to learn it became exciting and aspirational. During the second term of the course, we started to manufacture goods and were glad.
